Harmonyx The First of Her Kind
The Harmonyx from RealDoll provides a wide suite of customization options, from eye detailing, to make-up, all the way down to bare bone essentials like the skeletal structure. You may notice some differences in the photographs, that’s because RealDollx has a series of custom body types, including three petite/small models and five regular models. Each model comes with different spinal shapes, bust shapes, and just outright different shapes and curves.
RealDoll pay a lot of attention to the facial construction of their dolls; they aim to make them as life-like as possible. The head has a relatively natural range of motion that allows the dolls to pose, but most impressively, the head is designed to work in conjunction with an AI program managed and distributed by Realbotix. This is powered by an app, but unfortunately not one available on many platforms; at present, it only appears to be on Android, as it violates iOS terms of service. The Harmonyx still has some teething issues, while the AI accentuates the experience, it also feels lacking. The motions are still on the stiff side, and overall don’t quite feel human enough. They’re just unrealistic enough to sit in what’s called the uncanny valley, where our brains identify something as human, but not human enough. While the AI is functional, it’s a touch on the slow side, sometimes taking a while to respond. Perhaps a more humanizing feature would be to have the doll ‘er’ if stumped, or trying to answer a question.
Nevertheless, you do have customization choices for makeup and hairstyles. If you prefer brunettes with short hair, you have that option; if you’re more into curly redheads with cherry lipstick, you can do that too. Keep in mind that all of these options cost an additional fee, for example switching hairstyles costs $150, and changing body a whopping $4,000. Sometimes the extra upgrades are things we felt should have been baseline by default, such as the hand painted eyes. The quality of eyes goes a long way in avoiding uncanny valley problems.
Overall the Harmonyx is a very high-quality product; you get loads of customization options to ensure you get a doll tailored to you. The drawback, of course, is that they all come at a premium. The AI gives you a ton of options but requires an app on Android, and to me, it wouldn’t be a selling feature as it’s too jarring and distracting in its current form. I could see how in a few years with some more tweaks it becoming a lot more streamlined. It is a unique way to get companionship; you effectively make your Realdoll interactive, and they’re sure to grow this trend in the future.
TPE vs Silicone
The two main options for sex doll materials are silicone, and TPE. Silicone is made primarily from silicon and carbon, whilst TPE (also known as thermoplastic elastomer, or thermoplastic rubber) is a mix of plastic and rubber. Silicone is a more durable material, but also comes at the price of being more abrasive; typically you’ll need to treat the silicone before use to ensure it’s comfortable. Silicone can feel stickier than TPE, despite TPE containing rubber. A typical solution is to use baby powder or oils with silicone.
TPE is far less heat resistant than silicone, with even the most resistant and sturdy TPE polymers having a melting point at less than half of silicone.
