321 : oOoOO

Our vinyl copy of the amazing debut EP from oOoOO turned up yesterday so we pulled out our ouija board and asked him three special questions. He told us about Mormons, Popeye and Valley Girl culture.

oOoOO – Burnout Eyess [mp3] [buy]

1. “When I was like 18, I pulled into Salt Lake City at 5 in the morning and stayed for 8 months just cuz someone offered me an apartment and the rent was real cheap.”

2. “Ex-Mormon kids living in beat up McMansions on the rundown outskirts of Salt Lake throw the sickest parties anywhere and they usually end up involving rifles in some way (as dancing props, for example).”

3. “I wanna live in a lower middle-class part of the San Fernando Valley one day and raise some daughters that help make Valley Girl culture fresh again.”

1.Shelley Duvall – He Needs Me. Just a beautiful pop song/love ballad made all the more striking by how weird-looking/beautiful Shelley Duvall is (made even more weird looking by her playing Olive Oyl in the Popeye movie).”

2.The Runaways – Cherry Bomb. Early Valley Girl Culture. Really like the Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart version, too.”

1. “Hope I look as cool and dress as tastefully as Mary Gaitskill when I’m 56.”
