321 : Silk Flowers

While chasing this band around the internet we happened across a completely unrelated book called Silk Flowers Never Die: Love, Death, Mental Illness and Courage in an Internationally Renowned Family. That title says more about their music than we ever could. Peter from the band has awesome facts.

Peter Schuette: “Every day before I’d leave for high school, I would set up a small object like a plastic bottle or incense holder on my desk. When I got home from school I would pull my belt out of my belt loops and whip the object in one fluid movement. I got really good at this.

“I eat sardines with winter greens and brown rice every day for lunch, and I don’t care what anyone says.

“The mating season for elk in northern California is mid-September. The Roosevelt elks that resides on the Lost Coast are some of the largest in the world. I remember this because I did not toke up once when I visited.”

PS: “Club Cannibal by Ashra. Sometimes the titles of instrumental tracks seem added on and kind of unnecessary, but not this one. Bad stuff is always happening at Club Cannibal, and they’re jamming this one on repeat the whole time.

“Do It Any Way You Wanna by Cashmere. You’d think this song would be about something dirty, but it’s actually really motivational – “Keep reaching for the top,” Yes! And the bassline is so good, it’s a whole motivational lesson for me in itself.”

PS: “I wish I worked the lights at Club Cannibal.”

Silk Flowers’ new EP, As Above So Below is out soon on Captured Tracks.
