321 : Hind Ear

If you’ve heard their hard-shelled and hymnal Coconut, then you’ll know this is a band for all of your ears, not just that tiny, magic one hidden round the back. Head honcho Seb Franklin sent us this awesome Halloween-inspired jam and answered our trio of questions.

Seb Franklin: “As well as the obvious meaning hind also describes a species of fish, a crater on the moon and a pop singer from Bahrain.

“In geometry an ear is a type of polygonal vertex.

“The best anagram of Hind Ear is ‘hair den’. Or, if you’re a Greek myth fan, it might be ‘hera din’.”

SF: “Aaliyah – More Than A Woman. This song shows that inventive, rhythmically sharp music can also have heart. The guiro, the shaker-as-hihat, the bass, the guitar, I just love everything about this. The song it samples – Alouli Ansa, by Mayada el Hennawy – is also pretty amazing.

“Black Dice – Cone Toaster. There are a lot of people out there rightly trying to make rhythm music from the future, but no one comes close to B.D. When the house hats come in here, what can I say?”

SF: “If I had 1 wish it would be that I’d never listened to the song 1 Wish by Ray J – the one sampled on that Burial song Archangel – just before I left my house for a couple of weeks over Christmas. I still have it stuck in my head now, and it’s hardly that catchy either. ”

Hind Ear’s debut 7″, mixed by Dave Edwards of Minotaur Shock will be out in April. They’re also booking a tour for early-mid April: “So anyone that wants to book us for then, please get in touch!”
