321 : Fool’s Gold

We are usually suspicious of bands with more than four members. Fool’s Gold double that number but we don’t care because they might be the actual sound of sunshine (remember that?). After the jump Luke from the band recommends one of his own songs and some awesome Cuban music.

FG: “Dreams express the collective unconscious.

“Imitation is suicide.

“The Fool’s Gold loaf was Elvis Presley’s favorite sandwich.”

FG: “Los Zafiros – Mi Oracion. I just recently got into this Cuban vocal group from the 1960s. This song, a rearrangement of a tune that The Platters made famous, is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard. The main vocal travels into your spine and spits you out into an out-of-reach paradise. The background harmonies are a religion.”

Luke Top- Plainest Drought. This song came on my iPod recently and I got lost in it. It’s nice to come back to something later and find whole new meaning. Like reconnecting with a lover in a foreign country. Or being transported into the body of an ancestor.”

FG: “Live on Air Force One. Also performing: Morrissey, Mahmoud Ahmed, and Spinal Tap.”
