321 : Memory Cassette

Memory Cassette – Asleep At A Party/Last One Awake

Memory Cassette‘s Call & Response EP is an experiment of sorts, a misty daydream where half-remembered harmonies converse with their newfangled neighbours. Here is the nostalgic new video for a brace of tracks. After the jump Mr MC tells us about cookies, cherry trees and country music.

MC: “1. I live in New Jersey.

“2. I have a 4 year-old daughter.

“3. I am working on a country album.”

MC: “I Never Dreamed by The Cookies. This is, I think, the greatest example of the perfect pop song. It is simple to the point of being naive but sounds completely sincere. This song kills me forever.

The Cherry-Tree Carol traditional as performed by Shirley Collins. Tells the story of Mary while she is pregnant. She wants some cherries but Joseph is bitter, thinking that she cheated, and won’t help her. Baby Jesus tells the trees from inside the womb to bow down and allow his mother some cherries. I sampled the last line for an early Weird Tapes track called The Heavens.”

MC: “I wish I lived on a farm so I could turn my amps up loud and the cops wouldn’t show up.”

Memory Cassette’s Call & Response EP is out now on the excellent Acephale Records.
