321 : Real Estate

“Budweiser, Sprite, do you feel alright?” doesn’t look like a promising lyric on paper but as GvB point out, it’s just one of many reasons why Real Estate are awesome. You can read about them at our NME blog, and after the jump singer Martin Courtney tells us about bongos, McCartney and Lamborghinis.
Real Estate – Fake Blues (demo) [mp3]
Real Estate – Suburban Beverage [mp3]
Martin Courtney: “Matt, Bleeker and I are from suburban New Jersey. Etienne is from suburban Massachusetts, we met him at a Trey Anastasio concert at the Jones BEACH Ampitheater. His glow stick hit me in the head during First Tube, then we saw him later sitting next to a tank of nitrous oxide slaying the bongos hard.
“2. Everyone in Real Estate was once in another band called Lese Majesty, which was the brainchild of our good friend Julian Lynch. He is currently living in Madison, Wisconsin, writing incredible music in his apartment.
“3. I actually have a real estate license and work in a real estate office, just doing office work. I don’t actually sell houses. Etienne tries to get people to rent apartments from his landlord in exchange for free rent, it’s his job. Real Estate is more than just a band name, it’s how we livin’.”
Paul McCartney – Coming Up
MC: “Paul McCartney’s Coming Up. This song and Frozen Jap from the same album are like our band’s theme songs.
Fleetwood Mac – Dreams
“Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams. Our entire first album will hopefully sound like this song.”
MC: “Four matching Lamborghinis or world peace.”
Real Estate have a single out soon on Half Machine Records and an album to follow.
