321 : The Big Pink

If you remember the old Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles cartoon then you will remember Krang, the big pink brain who lived inside a giant robot. The Big Pink are like Krang and not just because of their name. They might not be evil or have tentacles, but Milo Cordell and Robbie Furze fortify their fragile songs with fearsome metallic exoskeletons. Cordell, the founder of Merok Records, and Furze, Alec Empire‘s former guitarist, took time out from constructing drone-pop masterpieces to tell us about Jean Claude Van Damme, models and t.A.T.u.

MC & RF: “1. Jean Claude Van Damme was originally cast as the Predator creature but was actually fired for complaining too much.
2. A language becomes extinct every two weeks.
3. Models can’t fuck.”
MC: “I love I Am The Resurrection. I know it’s a really obvious song. People go on about the false ending, the guitar solos etc, but I don’t mind all that , it’s the lyrics- I fucking love the sentiments of that song. It’s like the best break up song ever. The verses are all, fuck you bitch, you’re annoying – “Your tongue is far too long I don’t like the way it sucks and slurps upon my every word.” Then its “I Am The Resurrection and I am the light” – fuck you – I’m a dude – I’m better off without you…”

RF: “Bel Plasch No Zinzur. It’s the new t.A.T.u. single. It’s got a killer bassline it’s industrial dance, but basically it’s all about the video… A lot of concept going on in the video … It doesn’t get much better than this. ”
t.A.T.u. – Bel Plasch No Zinzur
MC & RF: “If models could fuck, that would be pretty ideal.”
