321 : Hockey

Wouldn’t it be great if Julian Casablancas and James Murphy had met in 80s New York and become inseperable buddies, dragging each other in and out of CBGBs and Studio 54 before sitting down to read William Blake and discuss the human condition? Imagine the infectious, literate, soul-addled music they might make. Now listen to Hockey. After the jump Ben Grubin, singer with this explosive Portland quartet, answers our three little questions.

Hockey – Too Fake [mp3]

BG: “Fact 1. We wrote a song called Facts once. It starts, ‘being young means wanting things you should never have would you agree?’

Fact 2. Poor people and rich people rarely hang out together.

Fact 3. We come to play a show in the UK soon. (A future fact?)”

“I love Once In A Lifetime by the Talking Heads because it says ‘there is water on the bottom of the ocean’ which is a very true and cool fact.

“Also love Coney Island Baby by Lou Reed because he starts the song talking all about playing football in high school and you wouldn’t think he would do that.”

“That the whole world could vote in the next U.S election.”
