Any Old Iron

Ezra Bang is the Tetsuo of hip-hop. We don’t mean he has bits of metal growing out his face or a penis that turns into a power drill, but that he is a monster made from the shreds and scraps of old rap. He is the hyper-sexual, campy menace of Schoolly D and the booming rhetoric of Public Enemy welded together and mounted on a stack of thrashed and trashed synthesizers. After the jump Ezra tells about his fearsome new song, What U Can’t Kill U Must Envy, which you can listen to here.

Ezra Bang & Hot Machine – What U Can’t Kill U Must Envy [mp3]

Ezra Bang: “Maybe if I lay down and renounce everything I am, maybe then you’ll leave us alone? Maybe if we conform to the great gods of democracy. Or better yet, maybe if I tell you where I hid your daughter, let’s die together in a huge heaping mess, because in all this there is no salvation for anyone… Those aren’t the lyrics but it’s the gist of it. The US, Britain can’t win this war. ‘What you can’t kill, you must envy’ you must at least respect. I’m not angry, just trying to touch on some truth without all the spin and xenophobia.”
