Like Randy the Ram our pals at Greco-Roman have
ridiculous hair and are way past their prime. But they still throw awesome parties. They've
found a new party space in Dalston and this Saturday (ie TOMORROW) sees the first of a series of
epic East London blowouts. Guests include Trevor Jackson, Wild Geese and Drums Of Death. Full details after the jump. [Continues...]
CFCF always has cool videos that recycle strange and awesome movies in the same way his music revises
and rejuvenates the Balearic sounds of summers past. You can watch his latest
Tommy Boy-directed and
Tommy Courtenay-starring opus over at our NME
blog. Here CFCF (AKA Mike Silver) tells us about great films, Bryan Ferry and Fozzy Bear. [Continues...]
Over on our NME
blog we compare Teeth!!! to a
cheeseburger because they are awesome, satisfying and probably not that good for you. Here Simon
from the band tells us about fungus, sneezing and "a bowl of dicks." [Continues...]
Thanks to John Waters and The Wire, Baltimore lives in people's minds as a seething pit of
gleeful perversion and municipal degradation, and somehow the music made there meets those
bizarre expectations. The last time we went to Brighton it was not like Baltimore. It was nice.
Like London, but smaller and cleaner and with a beach. Cold Pumas are from
Brighton, but their raging kraut funk lashes like a loose Ponytail,
channeling childhood into dreamy raw-riffed jams. Maybe Brighton has changed.
We wouldn't be doing our job as a music blog if we didn't mention this year's SXSW and how we are not there. We are in the internet, not Texas. NewVillager are there though, spreading their joyous, psychedelic chant-pop throughout Austin's dusty, booze-stained streets. Read about them at our NME blog, and after the jump they answer our three little questions. [Continues...]
If you've ever wanted to hear Elvis crooning about clams, Stephen Malkmus singing
about oysters or Ghostface rapping about octopus, then this is the mixtape for you.
Our friend Fume Avanti has put together a crazy collection of songs about molluscs of
every kind. It covers almost a hundred years of incredible invertebrate music and it
might be the most awesome thing ever. Tracklisting after the jump. [Continues...]
In the deserts of Sudan and the gardens of Japan, from Milan to Yucatan, every woman, every man is watching the new Golden Silvers video and laughing because it rules. The dapper London trio's spiffy new single reboots the loquacious UK funk of Squeeze and the Blockheads, and gets a deranged remix from Micachu and Raisa (of The Shapes) under their new M.A.T.H.E.S. guise. Das ist gut! C'est fantastique!
London duo Hype Williams have a song called White Mike, which is, in part, a tribute to the lunkheaded drug dealer from The Wire. "Our 'chemist' at the time had the same name," explains the band's Roy Nnawuchi. "Between waiting for his calls and watching that show, the name seemed to come up a lot." You can hear more from Hype Williams at our NME blog, and after the jump, the polluted and lascivious duo answer our three little questions. [Continues...]
"In 1256, Bologna promulgated the Legge del Paradiso or
Paradise Law, which abolished feudal serfdom and freed the slaves." We don't know what promulgated means,
but the Legge del Paradiso sounds awesome. 753 years later, His Clancyness recorded his new
Hissometer cassette in
Bologna. His twinkling dream pop sounds like it is governed by paradisal laws. Perhaps he knows what
promulgation is.
We've been under Your Twenties spell since
last year, when Cau
ght Wheel soundtracked our misspent summer. Recently, the awesome Transparent blog unveiled some amazing new demos from the band, which led us to tracking down frontman,
Gabriel Stebbing. He took time out from the Metronomy tour to speak to us
about their bittersweet paean to Annie from Elastica (over at our NME blog) and to
answer our three questions. In a neat twist of fate, we've just received an oven-fresh remix of
Caught Wheel from the mighty Gold Panda. Enjoy. [Continues...]
