London beat machine Paul
White made a stellar appearance on Mary Anne Hobbs' Radio 1 show last
week and has an album, 'The Strange Dreams Of...', out soon on the always
excellent One-
Handed Music. Here is his awesomely funny Chopt-up remix of Wham Rap!
(please note we avoided the easy joke about George Michael being Screwd). After the jump White talks to us about lots of things,
but mainly reggae. [Continues...]
Alice And The Cool Dudes is the coolest band name and Alice writes the coolest, prettiest songs. Her Cool Dudes include Tom Herbert from The Invisible, Ruth Goller from Acoustic Ladyland and Joe Bentley who played trombone with Polar Bear. Here is a demo of one of her cool, pretty songs and after the jump she lists her top 5 cool dudes. [Continues...]
Django Django is our new favourite band. We really love them. They recorded their song Storm at Audio Underground in StoNu late last year, before they'd even formed. "Myself and Vinny got together at the weekend with the loose brief of trying to record interesting pop songs," says Dave from the band. "The lyrics are based on a story we came up with about a guy and a girl on a road trip that’s going horribly wrong." After the jump they tell us about honey, Hitler and Black Lace. [Continues...]
We've been a bit slack recently, even more so than usual. The Samps know how rubbish we are. Led by Cole, guitarist with Haunted Graffiti , they make epileptic aqua-beats, tracks that are swashbuckling dumb fun. They answered our 321 questions ages ago, and we’re only just putting up their amazing answers now. Sorry, Samps. After the jump Cole ruminates on Lenny Bias and introduces us to the awesome Freddy K. [Continues...]
We wanted
Chik Budo to answer our 321 questions, but as Colin from the
band explains, our quiz proved polarising: "Sorry, me and Dan
couldn't agree on any of the answers. We don't agree on a lot of
things really which is good for making music, but a bit shit if
people are waiting for answers from us. That's how Chik Budo
works!" Instead they sent us a new song called Disappear. Proof
that sometimes inter-band friction breeds unpredictable and
amazing electronic afrobeat jams.
Seb from Tapedeck, who runs the awesome Meal Deal Records, also makes anti-party music as Beat Totem. Here he is ruining another perfectly good night out.
It's been seven hours and fifteen days since we last mentioned Micachu or We Have Band or both together. We go out every night, sleep all day, do whatever we
want, see whomever we chose, eat in fancy restaurants. Yep, our life is pretty sweet. But
let's talk about them again, because they rule. Mica's Jewelry is one of the best new albums
of the young year and here WHB have taken time out from taking over Kitsune to take apart her new single.
Since 1993 we have lived entirely inside the internet (it's warm!),
but if you like to venture outside and you like fun then you will love TinchyStryder and Mz Bratt at Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen on Tuesday 3rd February. Our name is on the flyer so IT WILL BE AWESOME.
Terror Danjah's Zumpi Huntah is so slick. It's the kind of song we would listen to whilst racing our red convertible around digitally rendered Californian highways. And Zumpi is our
new favourite word. Find out why at our NME blog.
Look outside! It's cold and dreary and depressing and it
will be forever. Here at Pinglewood we plan to combat the gloom with music that
is warm and analeptic, tinged with melancholy, but ultimately uplifting. So
thanks Paul
Epworth for making the return of Jack Peñate such an
unexpected pleasure. Epworth may have hung up his Phones, but here he creates a fine fusion of classic house
and highlife to swaddle Peñate's classy pop songwriting.
Shock shock, horror horror, shock shock, horror. Having exhausted 90s dance-pop as a sample source it seems Big Rap has moved on to 90s indie-pop. Our pal Catchdubs found a new Swizz and Weez song that samples Scouse brit-pop stalwarts, Space. Does this mean we'll soon hear Kanye rapping over Connection? God, we hope so.
