There's No Need To Be Afraid

Before we disappear off into the snow for an extended bout of gluttony, here is a festive freebie from Your Twenties. Thanks to them and all the other amazing bands who help make Pinglewood more than just a load of stupid words and pictures. See you next year.

Andele Andele!

If Chuck Bass and Nate Archibald ever indulge in a 48-hour Tiujana meth bender this bug-eyed take on Cousins is a suitably frantic soundtrack. Imagine Speedy Gonzales in a polo shirt (collar popped) and you're almost there.

321 : Pipes

Whether you are cracking the head of Colonel Mustard or just hanging out with crackheads, Pipes come in handy. Fresh from recording this frantic mummy murder confession, the London trio talk skate videos, Tornados and buffering agents. [Continues...]

Trouble Every Day

Dollars To Pounds time. This week the awesome Deep Sht. Suddenly the world is full of amazing Ipswich fans.

Meat Market

If it were possible to distill the seven minute majesty of this song into two words you might end up with Lonely and Galaxy, but it isn't so instead sink into its starburst sadness while widescreen teardrops well in your eyes. This guy is amazing.

Lonely Galaxy - Have A Heart [mp3]

Fire Burning

Don't be glum. We know the world is full of terrifying Swedes and bizarre Norwegian space portals, but there is also Friendly Fires. These dudes are always happy. They're having a big party at the Coronet this Friday and you should go. While you're there pick up a limited 12" of this amazing Joakim remix and maybe try your hand at singer Ed's unbridled spaz- dancing which manages to be ridiculous and awesome at exactly the same time.

Jeepers Creepers

You wouldn't expect to find polar bears hanging out in Ethiopia, but then Seb Rochford's hirsute bunch are smarter than the average Ursus maritimus. Here they are making eyes at Mulatu from their new home at the lovely Leaf Label.

Polar Bear - Peepers [mp3]

Cast Away

Last weekend Morrissey was on Desert Island Discs, so here is a band that sounds like Morrissey on a desert island. Sea Lions are awesome young pups, like The Clean, but well-scrubbed, The Pastels in technicolor. Get their new single from the suitably effusive YAY! Records.

Sea Lions - I Loved Her So Much [mp3]

Are You Cussing With Me?

After a brief hiatus my Dollars To Pounds column returns to FADER this week with a new mix from vulpine virtuoso, Fantastic Mr Fox.

Hyperreality

Since we last caught up with Becoming Real he has become a whole lot realer. Remixes for Comanechi and Banjo Or Freakout, a mixtape for Platform that opens with Cilla Black and closes with Des'ree, and an appearance on a new Merok comp compiled by our favourite blog, Don't Die Wondering. On Monday Mr Real drops his debut 12" on Tough Love Records. From it, for a limited time only, here are three-and-a-half minutes of anxious, fragmented funk.

Nothing Human Loves Forever

[80s movie announcer]: "The timeless beauty of Pinglewood, the cruel elegance of O Children, the open sensuality of The Golden Filter combine to create a modern classic of perverse fear. Haunting. Mysterious. Sensual. Strange. Perverse. Riveting."

O Children - Dead Disco Dancer (The Golden Filter Remix) [mp3]

Everywhere But Nowhere

This song gets around. From Morricone's wind-scoured sandscapes to Bristol's bass-shattered badlands via Gary War's New York nightmares and the hall of mirrors beatwork of hometown boys Hud Mo and Rustie. Glasgow's Dam Mantle proves that, while Time's Arrow travels backwards, the purple kind has an altogether more haphazard trajectory. See him at the Lexington in January.
