We've been under Your Twenties spell since last year, when Caught Wheel soundtracked our misspent summer. Recently, the awesome Transparent blog unveiled some amazing new demos from the band, which led us to tracking down frontman, Gabriel Stebbing. He took time out from the Metronomy tour to speak to us about their bittersweet paean to Annie from Elastica (over at our NME blog) and to answer our three questions. In a neat twist of fate, we've just received an oven-fresh remix of Caught Wheel from the mighty Gold Panda. Enjoy.
Gabriel Stebbing: "1. Have you noticed how you never see seagulls perching on tree branches? That's because due to their webbed feet, they can only perch on smooth surfaces, such as lamp-posts.
"2. Katy Perry was born on exactly the same day as my girlfriend.
"3. When I moved from Reading to Devon, aged 14, Robin Christian (Your Twenties drummer) was the very first person I met. He was 12 at the time and I was a drummer rather than a guitarist. He was learning drums at the time, and asked me to play Nirvana for him. So I did."
2 SONGS
GS: "A song I love is Long Distance Love by Little Feat. It's the most played song on my iTunes. It's so smooth but at the same time so emotional, a quality that smooth music sometimes lacks. And it's nice and short - under three minutes."
"A song I hate is Smokers At The Hospital Door by Editors. I think they're just a horribly manipulative band. I can't stand them."
1 WISH
GS: "I wish I had infinity wishes."
Your Twenties play the thecocknbullkid single launch at the ICA on 11th March and Metronomy presents TopmanCTRL at Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen on 25th March. There will be more gigs in April and a single later in the spring.
