Over the last few months Babe Rainbow has been switching off lights all over the internet, crawling out of speakers and screaming BOO into unsuspecting ears. Now he's collaborated with Basketball on what he describes as a "more heartbreaking, melancholic" take on his spine-tingling dirge-step sound. After the jump he takes a bold stab at our 321 questions.
CR: "Sweet Singlet by No Gold. No Gold are pretty much the soundtrack to summer in Vancouver. They play every warehouse, every house party, every loft, every forest and everyone loves them. They always look like they just came from the beach and write amazing pop songs. I was in Europe last Fall and this song made me so homesick. They have an album coming out soon on Unfamiliar Records (home to Japandroids, among others).
"Lightning Lip by Basketball. These guys are my best friends and inspire me to no end. They are all incredibly talented artists that I feel so grateful to know. They take inspiration from everywhere and synthesize it so well (if you ask me). This week it's Muslimgauze, next it's DAF, after that it's traditional Balkan folk music, and next it's Benga. We all came of age listening to post-hardcore so there's always going to be a little element of that. They've been touring Europe since January. This is a song they wrote and recorded over there and I think it's another amazing example of painting with their own brush. "
Next from Babe Rainbow: "I just finished a remix for Comanechi (Merok Records - UK) and am working on one for Vice Records. I'll be packaging up my last 4 months of output as an mixtape. Hopefully touring with Basketball this fall. I've got a few videos in the works. Just keep grinding and putting out new music."
