321 : Wax Stag

When I was six my family moved, briefly, to St Albans. My Suffolk accent was so thick a teacher forced me to take elocution lessons. Now I talk like this guy. Rob Lee AKA Wax Stag is from St Albans and he makes wordless, wonderful songs like Leith. He told me about his parents, metal and a girl called Emily.

3 FACTS

Rob Lee: "1. I've never booked a flight.

"2. My father is seventeen years older than my mother.

"3. Holland is not a country."

2 SONGS

RL: "For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her by Simon & Garfunkel. This is my favourite love song. Musically and lyrically, for me, it's almost too good for words. There's a studio recording of this song, but for me the "In Concert" version is the one. I loved this song as a seven year old boy, and as I've grown up, I've loved it even more. It's a perfect performance of a perfect song. Paul Simon is pretty much the man, as far as I'm concerned.

Simon & Garfunkel - For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her

"I Am Forever by Crowbar. This is one of my favourite songs by one of my favourite heavy bands. It's heavy in a way that bands who try to be heavy just for heaviness' sake will never be. There's beauty and soul to be found in this kind of music, and in this song, it's in abundance. The riff in the breakdown section blows me away every time, and Jimmy Bower's drumming on this is just something else."

1 WISH

RL: "I really wish I had a cat."
