The Bitter End Listening to this song, you'd be forgiven for thinking Mayer Hawthorne was a candy-voiced old soul who died in obscurity decades ago (probably from a heroin overdose in the dusty parking lot of a ramshackle southern juke joint), but whose music has been rediscovered by bargain bin-plundering vinyl nerds. The last bit is nearly true, he's signed to Stones Throw (hello nerds!), but he's not dead, he's "a 29-year-old white kid from Ann Arbour," and this, his debut single, is out now on a Bobby Caldwell-inspired heart-shaped 45.
