On BEATS: Free The Robots

This week the awesome Stussy x Turntable Lab BEATS boxset went on sale (Get one quick!). In our final look at the dudes involved we spoke to LA's super-talented Free The Robots.

Free The Robots - La Lune [mp3]

Free The Robots on…Making BEATS

Most of my tracks are a blend of samples, recorded sounds, farts, and original compositions using hardware, synthesizers and computers. The set up is pretty simple. I use an M-audio Axiom 61, Korg SP200 keyboard, EMU-Vintage Pro rack, Akai MPD 24, and some Decks, all linked up to a computer filled with Reason, Recycle, Pro-tools and Ableton Live.

Free The Robots on… Favourite BEATS

I’ll tell you about my recent favorite. I've been listening to this track called Side 8 (Big Gums Version) by Tobacco. I love this track mainly because of the unique synths and sounds that were used, and the constantly changing melody. It’s dark, dirty, aggressive, loungy, weird and soulful at the same time. The mood is very progressive with the changes and leads throughout the song. Two thumbs up! (see Black Moth Super Rainbow)

Free The Robots on… Giving BEATS

Mike Tyson in the original Mike Tyson's Punch Out or Sephiroth from Kingdom Hearts. Two bosses I was never able to beat and it’s annoying!
