Today is a day we will spend drinking and dancing and not going to the toilet in roads around west London. It also sees the release of Nobody Knows Anything, an anthology of tracks from Berlin's Supersoul Recordings on DFA's Death From Abroad imprint. Across two glorious CDs you will find many genres ending in the letter 'o': Italo disco, electro, Detroit techno, Chicago houseo and Krautrocko. Listen as label boss Xaver Naudascher joins up with Moon Unit buddy Paul Mogg to muck around with Walter Jones. Head over to the mighty 20JFGs to hear what the D.A.N.C.E. cheerleaders might sound like if they were force-fed radical politics and amphetamines. Here Xaver talks to us about subterfuge, soundtracks and the unique styling of Berlin prostitutes...
Xaver Naudascher: "I was approached by them after I released my first 12" on Supersoul. They said they hated it and that I should immediately stop releasing material and close the label down. As I refused they offered me ludicrous amounts of money to buy the whole catalogue to let it disappear
in their vaults forever. Of course I took the money. I am surprised as you are that they seem to have changed their mind and are actually delivering CDs to stores. I think they want to teach me a lesson by shaming me through means of rejection by the public."
What's your favourite DFA release?
"LCD Soundsystem - Yeah (Crass mix). It has all a great timeless dance track needs, solid disco drumming, a bit of techno, a simple cocky vocal and a solid dose of acid."
Nobody Knows Anything. Discuss.
"Ask William Goldman, it's a quote by him. I just like the sound of it. But of course I have no idea what it means, which proves the point."
Tell us how you became involved in scoring films.
"In '98 i was asked to mix some material for the Run Lola Run soundtrack and the people in charge liked my work. Since then I have been offered various jobs on several filmscores (mixing, recording, production and composing)."
Other than your own, which record should we buy this week?
"If you haven't heard Geisterfaust by Bohren & Der Club Of Gore you haven't lived. Also Kanon Pokajanen by Arvo Pärt is an absolute must. Other things i liked recently: Dexter - Wonka, Byetone - Plastic Star, MGMT (a bit over it already but it was fun to listen to). Walter Jones - All God's Children, too of course."
When we were in Berlin earlier this year all the prostitutes outside our hotel were wearing corsets over puffa jackets. It was a strong look. Do many people in Berlin dress that way?
"We don't have prostitutes in Berlin. It must have been Essex girls on a pub crawl. And I also think it's a strong look. If you send me a photo of yourself in that outfit, next time you come to Berlin all drinks are on me for the first 24hrs of your stay."
[struggles into corset] What next for Supersoul?
"I am sticking to 12"s until next year, then i might start releasing albums. Next 12"s:
Walter Jones with an epic 17 min. deephouse track
Plastique De Reve's - Lost In The City (plus a DJ Rampage mix of Resist)
Sebastien Tellier (remixed by Strangelets)
Moon Unit - Connections (plus Ewan Pearson mix hopefully)
Grackle - Desert Acid (remixed by Musiccargo and edited by Tako) plus some beautifully weird Speculator style music
Max Brannslokker - Solar Trip, Stropharia plus unreleased material,
