ON: Sportsday Megaphone Remember when Ultimate Warrior and Macho Man joined forces at SummerSlam to became the Ultimate Maniacs? What a glorious union that was. And here's another! On this song from his new album, So Many Colours/So Little Time, Sportsday Megaphone forms an all-conquering pop alliance with Rebekah Rah from Stricken City. Here Mr Megaphone AKA Hugh Frost tells us about Raa, walkie talkies and his favourite double acts... Sportsday Megaphone - Carrying The Years (ft. Rebekah Raa) [mp3] [Buy] P: Rebekah Raa is great, isn't she? How did you come to work with her? SM: "We've been friends for about 2 years after meeting at a night we were both playing. I got on with all of Stricken City immediately, their drums/bass lineup has changed so much in 2 years, but Becky and Ian are always at the center of it. Love that band so much." P: What's the song about? SM: "Becky wrote the lyrics to this one but I think it's about moving from place to place and trying to remember the constants which make you happy when there's a lot of change and disruption over a period of time." RAAAA! P: You two sound so great together. Who is your favourite double act? SM: "I know they were a full band and maybe didn't harmonise together that much, but my favorite use of male/female vocals over a whole album would have to be Rumours-era Fleetwood Mac without a doubt. Local London band The XX have a really nice boy / girl thing going on too. Of course, WHAM! were pretty damn special. Oh and Jonathan Wolf (of Why?) and Andrew Broder (Fog) made one of my favourite tracks ever - 21st Century Pop Song - from the album Hymie's Basement on Lex." P: You make all these amazing sounds. What's your favourite instrument/gizmo? SM: "Thanks! I wish I had more hardware but a lot of it comes from computer based fiddling. Although there are some wonderful and unique sounds to be teased out of the ubiquitous MicroKorg. I still like using walkie talkies live for distorted vocals sometimes and hope to get some more use from my Melodica..." P: Describe your new album in ten words. "ELABORATE KARAOKE / THE SOUND OF ONE HAND CLAPPING / HOME - FI" P: Besides yours, which records should our readers buy this week? SM: "I'm still loving the Hercules and Love Affair album, they were amazing live at Camp Bestival. The latest Why? record, Alopecia, is the new TV On The Radio one out yet? Can't wait for that...
