Smith is a brilliantly belligerent old bastard and he’s having a great year. Sacking the whole band (again) has reenergized The Fall and he’s hooked up with Mouse On Mars to start a new band called Von Südenfed whose excellent new album Tromatic Reflexxions will be out on Domino on 21/05/07. Whether he’s stubbornly refusing to gush about John Peel on Newsnight or reading out the classified football scores, Smith is fast becoming a national treasure; a position sure to be cemented by his forthcoming autobiography, Renegade: The Lives and Tales of Mark E. Smith.
